Career In Law
Today the job market is highly competitive. As far as career is concerned, it must be clearly understood that Law as a profession in the present day has become quite glamorous. But success in this profession requires a lot of hard work and determination. The degree of competition that prevails in the profession is very high. A large number of law graduates complete law courses each year. They are allowed to enrol and practice in any court in any part of the country. The tremendous pace of development coupled with the population explosion have contributed to the increase in problems in the Indian society. This has initiated far-reaching changes in the legal system and there has been a spurt in litigation.
Choice of career being a crucial and serious business, one must take a decision only after carefully considering all the relevant facts. What constitutes the legal profession in our country? What are the employment or as self-employment opportunities available in this field? What are the most important attributes needed to study and become a successful lawyer? As a subject, Law is the set of rules which governs the behaviour of persons, companies, the governments at the Centre and states and any other place. The offending parry can be punished under the rule of law. Over the years studying law has been a passion rather than a profession for many. The present is not as glorious as past, but it is reasonable; so is the wealth, honour and recognition provided you excel in your work, according to one of the most eminent legal practitioners in India. After obtaining a law degree and on the completion of internship, one can start one's career as an advocate or a solicitor .A great deal of your work, as a lawyer, involves devotion to a study of the rules and regulations applicable to different areas of human activities. Such rules and regulations are sometimes found in our state and federal constitutions, more often in statutes, sometimes in administrative ruling, and in many instances, have been developed by the courts themselves in the process of deciding the controversies that come before them. They give advice on legal matters and use their judgement to decide what legislation and precedents are relevant in a particular case. Advocates are normally consulted by solicitors on behalf of their clients. Initially, a junior assistant to an advocate performs routine jobs like filing, researching, securing adjournment and attending court with the advocate, according to one of the additional solicitor generals of India. Speaking about the growth in career prospects, he added that gradually the assistant begins working on briefs and drafting of plans which is an important aspects of an advocates's job. After several years of drafting work with an advocate, a lawyer can start actively appearing in the court. A solicitor represent a client in cases dealing with a wide variety of personal and business matters. When the case is taken to court. It is the solicitor who instructs and briefs the advocate to appear for a client. A junior can join a solicitor's firm either as an article clerk while pursuing a law degree of after internship as a solicitor's assistant. After several years, a junior can rise to the level of solicitor's assistant. And ultimately be invited to join the law firm. "Hard work dedication and regard for your client are the important qualities needed to become a good lawyer." |
